Adopt a Christmas tree! This is a sustainable way to make Christmas extra fun this year! Better for the environment, better for the world and therefore better for us! How it works, how much it costs and why adopting a Christmas tree is so important, I will explain in this article!

Why adopt a Christmas tree?

Every year, 2.5 million Christmas trees are bought in the Netherlands. A large part of this disappears into burning ovens after Christmas. This releases a lot of CO2 and has a bad influence on the world.

In addition, chemical pesticides and fertilizers are often used during the cultivation of Christmas trees. This is harmful to nature.

In this time there are so many fires worldwide. We really need trees! Trees are important because they provide us with oxygen. They also provide enough rain and they prevent heat waves from happening. Christmas trees too!

Reasons to adopt a Christmas tree:
  • You prevent the Christmas tree from ending up in the fire oven
  • The Christmas tree can continue to live after Christmas
  • Adoption trees return 4 to 5 times to your living room
  • No trees are thrown away
  • 80% to 90% survive the replant

How does it work?

  • Go to one of the distribution points in your area.
  • Here you can choose a Christmas tree that you like. The Christmas trees are in a pot so that the roots stay compact and the tree continues to grow.
  • Take good care of the Christmas tree at home. Give the tree enough water and attention so that it can continue to grow after the holidays (you will also receive information about taking care of the tree from the company where you adopt the Christmas tree).
  • Have a wonderful Christmas and enjoy your beautiful, sustainable tree!
  • In February after Christmas you bring the tree back to the pickup point and receive a deposit (depending on location).
  • Now this happy tree can continue to grow! And you can come and pick it up again next year.

All companies offering adoption Christmas trees may have slightly different procedures. Therefore, read the websites carefully. You can also contact them if you have any questions.

How much does it cost?

The price for an adoption Christmas tree differs per location. It also depends on the size of the tree. In general the prices vary between 20 and 50 euros.

You pay a deposit in advance (usually 10 euros). If you meet the requirements, you will of course simply get this back when you hand in the tree.

Keep in mind that you directly also pay for a more sustainable, better world. You also invest in ecological and local companies. This stimulates the concept of adoption trees. So you definitely get value for your money!

Pick Up Points

There are various companies that offer adoption trees;

Make sure you find a pick up point in your area. When you have to drive 10km up and down to pick up an adopted Christmas tree, you still have a lot of negative impact on the environment.
