Enjoy a relaxing weekend in the Dutch nature
In November I spend a weekend with my family in a monumental monastery farm “De Woeste Wieven”. We were in the middle of beautiful nature. It was great to get away from the daily grind, get out of your head and to enjoy the peace and quiet. We swam in the natural swimming pond (7C) during the sunrise, had a delicious meal, walked, relaxed and enjoyed the hospitality and good care. I would like to tell you more about this beautiful place.
Enjoy a relaxing weekend in the Dutch nature
De Woeste Wieven – Twente
The location & surroundings
De Woeste Wieven is a monumental monastery farm on “Erve Bonkert” in Diepenheim on the edge of the Achterhoek and Twente. It is peaceful, quiet and very beautiful.
In the morning I decided to get up with my nieces before the sun came up. When we walked out at 07:00, there was a thick layer of fog on the meadows. Behind the mist you saw the sun rise. It was breathtaking. A really great experience.
Due to “certain circumstances”, many places were closed in the little village of Diepenheim. We only stayed here for a while, because there was plenty to do at the farm. We did walk around and got a coffee to-go. There were cute, arty shops and a cozy atmosphere.
Food
There were delicious meals made with locally produced products. They cater to all wishes and there are also vegetarian options.
Rooms
There are several locations where you can stay overnight. From the rooms where we stayed, you had a view over the meadows and you could walk outside.
Sustainability
Sustainability plays an important role at de Woeste Wieven. I noticed this on everything when I was there. The food was produced by local farmers and the owners were very passionate about nature. Nature must therefore be handled with care, because we get so much in return.
During the renovation of the farm, sustainability and nature have also been taken into account. They thought about how they could give things a second life and reuse them. As little as possible was thrown away.
Natural swimming pond
And then, last but not least … The natural swimming pond. This was definitely my highlight of the weekend for me. I can imagine that this is nice to swim in the summer when it is warmer, but even with 7C it was wonderful. It took a while to bring up the courage, but eventually my niece and I jumped in.
