Zero Waste Stores in The Netherlands
It can be difficult to find Zero Waste stores in The Netherlands where you can buy products or items that are packaging-free and sustainable. That is why I have made a list with a number of stores in the Netherlands that make this a little easier for you. Think of items such as food, stuff, clothes and toiletries.
FOOD
LITTLE PLANT PANTRY
Little Plant Pantry is a new vegetable minimal waste wholefoods store in Amsterdam where they try to minimize waste by completely avoiding plastic, selling bulk and finding compostable alternatives to traditional packaging. They also have a vegan food counter for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Simon Lévelt is ideal if you are looking for loose coffee and tea, without packaging. Make sure you bring your own bowl, jar or bag and ask if they want to put it in there. Perfect! No waste.
In addition, they also improve the living and working conditions of workers. In the past, for example, a school, dental clinic and facilities for coffee processing have been realized. They also use fair trade guidelines as much as possible. In the field of nature conservation, they work together with organizations such as the Rainforest Alliance and Bird Friendly.

PIETER POT (previously PuurBezorgd)
I recently discovered Pieter Pot (previously PuurBezorgd). This is a perfect option if you are busy with school or work and have little time to do environmentally conscious shopping. You just have to place an order and choose a suitable delivery time. All groceries purchased in bulk and so they can fill reusable glass jars. The next time they visit you for the delivery of your new groceries, they take the empty jars back with them for reuse. How cool is this? For now only in Rotterdam, but you can find your location on the waiting list and who knows in your area soon!

OIL & VINEGAR
You guessed it, but here you can buy oil and vinegar, among other things. The nice thing about this store is that they have taps where you can tap oil and vinegar in your own bottle! I do recommend that you first ask one of the employees how it works!

SUPERMARKET & MARKET
In a general supermarket you can already find many products without plastic. Vegetables, fruit, breads etc. For all other products are often alternatives that have less packaging or are packaged in paper, instead of plastic. Don’t forget to bring your own shopping bags!
On the market you can find almost everything that is plastic in the supermarket. Nuts, fresh herbs, mushrooms, dips and of course fruit and vegetables. In addition, there is always a cozy atmosphere and you have a lot of choice. You can walk around and discover new things.
I always feel that the people who have a stall at the market have a passion for what they do and the food they sell. There is a lot of love involved! That makes the food even more fun (and tastier) to buy. If you have access to a market nearby, this is a super option next to the supermarket.
CLOTHES
There are many cool thrift shops for clothing, such as Episode, Sussies, Vintage per kilo, etc. You can also find cool vintage / second-hand clothing at the Ijhallen! Yet switching to sustainable fashion is not always easy and this can be quite a step. In “3x Thrifting Tips” I share my thrifted outfits, tips and advice about 2nd hand fashion! There are also more second-hand stores listed there.
Toiletries
Toiletries can contain many harmful chemicals. Your skin absorbs all these harmful chemicals, so that they end up in your body. Fortunately, there are a number of stores that offer natural toiletries buy.
DIY SOAP
DIY Soap is located in Amsterdam. Here you can buy DIY packages to finish yourself. This way your products stay fresh, and you know exactly what is in it since you made it yourself! They also sell ready-made products and loose ingredients, so that you can put together your own skincare on the spot. So take your own empty packaging material (jars / shampoo bottles) with you, so that they can be reused. For those who want to learn more about this or to inspire friends, there are also workshops!

The plastic packaging that is used can be returned to the store after it has run out. It is then recycled at the Lush plant so that it can be reused.

LIFESTYLE & HOUSEHOLD
One of the biggest negative impacts on the environment is due to things. We live in a time when we are all buying so much stuff. Much more than we actually need. It is super important that you ask yourself what you really need and what you only buy for the “good feeling”. You can enjoy things much more if it gives a lot of value to your life!
Thrift stores
Thrift stores are always the first option for me to look around. Buying second hand has a good, positive impact on the environment. Everything you need has another left. Then why would we buy new?
DILLE & KAMMILE
If you still want to buy new stuff, then choose stuff that is made of natural material and good quality. The Dille & Kamille range is almost completely plastic-free. Many things are made of wood or metal. They also have many tools that can help you to live in an environmentally friendly way. For example natural cleaning products.
